Welsh Cull

The Welsh government has dropped plans to cull badgers as part of an attempt to wipe out bovine TB in cattle.

In 2010 the Badger Trust won a Judicial Review in Wales, preventing the culling of badgers under the Badger (Control Area) (Wales) Order 2011.

John Griffiths, Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, announced that the Chief Scientific Advisor would be carrying out a review of the scientific evidence on bovine TB and the effectiveness of culling or vaccinating badgers.

A vaccination programme to prevent TB spreading through cattle in west Wales has now started, with 275 badgers so far injected.
