Simon King is Our New Patron
Following on from our successful evening with Simon King OBE wildlife film maker and naturalist, he has agreed to become our Patron. Our evening with Simon at the Marriot Hotel in Preston was an overwhelming success. Over 180 people listen to Simon‘s wildlife encounters and learnt how to respect and get closer to nature. Simon was on hand to answer questions and sign his new book ‘Nature Watch’ How to get close to wildlife.
‘Having Simon as our Patron is a fitting way in which to celebrate our 25 years of working together to protect badgers. Our evening with Simon King OBE, was an enormous success.’ said David Beatie Chairperson of Lancashire Badger Group.
Simon King said ‘I am delighted and honoured to have been made the Patron of the Lancashire Badger Group. Though these creatures play a pivotal roll in the eco systems of the British countryside, they have historically suffered at the hands of man. In the face of this persecution, legislation was passed that granted badgers full protection by law; how tragic then that those very same creatures now suffer a meaningless cull petitioned by the government, and licence to kill them granted by the very same body that is tasked with their protection. Never before has the badger needed a voice for the curators of power. The Lancashire Badger Group will help give them that voice.’
Lancashire Badger Group was founded in 1992 we have over the last 25 years been protecting badgers and their setts from persecution and criminal activity, through regular survey and monitoring by volunteers. We provide information, talks or training to the public regarding the natural history and needs of badgers, raising awareness of the persecution and other issues that they face. Campaigning on local and national issues that affect badgers.
